“Juicy Top” crochet sweater
I’ve been crocheting away on this since July 10th and finally, I have the front piece done. The pattern is in the July/August 2013 issue of Crochet Today magazine. It is a Shibaguyz Designs pattern, a two guy design team, one is the crochet designer, the other is the photographer.
I am about 2″ into the back, I did the first row in the next hook size up so hopefully the bottom of the back doesn’t “curl” as it does here in the front. The first row and the neck / shoulder shaping probably require the most “focus”. Plus, keeping track of the shaping at the same time you are keeping track of what striping row you are on all at the same time…

Both versions ended up too long, like mini dresses 😦 I got an idea from reading someone on Ravelry’s comments on it, they said something about “moving the squares around” or doing them “shorter”. Well, there IS no “moving” the squares around, as each “tier” is worked of the edge of the prior “tier”, entrelac tier. But the idea of shortening the 3rd tier, or perhaps, removing it entirely “might” work. Stay tuned.

I had to modify the collar extensively, I had to add a bunch of extra rows because the neck / shoulder area was way too “open” to wear properly. I’ve also added a couple rows of single crochet, with some decreases, will add more until the collar is sized properly.

The pattern calls this section the third tier (the V shaped section on the left side of the photo), after the back bust block is done, only the sleeves, shoulders, collar, and sleeve edgings remain. The label near the right (waist) edge is the front base triangle (tier 1)

This is about halfway done more or less. Each tier is worked entrelac style, off the selvedge edge of the prior tier. Tier 1 is two base triangles, the bottom and front waist band. The 2nd tier is the “body” block. It is looking a lot less HUGE than the first one I did, so I have hopes it will actually fit me.

The future’s so bright, he’s gotta wear shades:)
This is my boyfriend Ed at the comic book shop he is a member of, Legends, in Cupertino, CA. They took a picture of him wearing this crocheted mask they have for sale there. I have been told this is a Cthulu, whatever the heck that is LOL

The first one, with the hook called for (size I) turned out HUGE. If I put it on, it would literally slide right off my shoulders LOL Turns out the hook size recommended on the yarn label itself is a G. So I have restarted another one on a size G hook in the hopes that this time around it will actually fit me. As I have already done a complete one, I am hoping it won’t take me too long this time around. It took me two days (10/27 & 10/28/12) to get this far. My first attempt to do this pattern got me so frustrated I didn’t even bother to keep track of exactly when I started it. You are looking at the waist line and the first part of the front base triangle. For any interested crocheters, this pattern is from Fall 2011’s issue of Interweave Crochet, which is now available for purchase as a single pattern download from Interweave.com’s online store.

It has taken a LONG time to get this far, and the darned thing is more like a mini dress that a sweater. I prefer to consider it a “prototype”. That is a double ended bamboo crochet hook still in the right sleeve. Once that sleeve is finished, only the collar rows, and the edging rows around the sleeves to go. Hopefully washing it will help the sizing issue. We will see. This pattern is from the Fall 2011 issue of Interweave Crochet magazine, & is available for sale as a single pattern download on Interweave.com’s online store.

I estimate I started this pattern sometime in June 2012, as I’ve ripped it and restarted it so many times, I don’t know the exact date. This pattern is found in the Fall 2011 issue of Interweave Crochet, it is available as a single pattern download purchase.
It was a difficult pattern to grasp, plus, as it is a “start at the bottom, work your way to the top” pattern, it is not a “see if it fits as you progress” pattern. I hope it fits, but won’t know until I’m nearly done with it. The yarn is Caron Spa in Lipstick Coral. As Caron was recently purchased by Spinrite, have no idea what Spinrite’s intentions for continuing to make Spa are. I found a lot of knots, and some frayed areas thus far, but it is very soft to the touch and easy to handle.
